About Me
Ana Petrović is an Assistant Professor of Urban Studies at the Department of Urbanism, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology. Her research focusses on sociospatial inequalities, segregation, and spatial context effects – how neighbourhoods, cities and regions influence individual life course outcomes. Her big fascination is to visualise research results in maps which can be read by people with various kinds of visual impairments including blindness, while at the same time being appealing and useful for sighted people. She is particularly interested in the question how to represent results of quantitative research in tactile maps. Ana is herself a member of “Oog in oog”, a Dutch association of people with prosthetic eyes. In 2025, Ana was awarded a Veni grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO). As an urban geographer, she analyses large and complex population data to contribute knowledge leading to better urban design and social policies. Her main aim is to enhance the quality of life in urban environments. As a member of the Working Group for Inclusive Cartography, her goal is to make (cartographic) knowledge more accessible to visually impaired people. To achieve this, she started an initiative “Tactile Urbanism”, which includes a collection of 3D printed maps representing research results from a range of projects at her faculty in an innovative and inclusive way: visualising urban environment, and sharing knowledge and research results for both sighted and visually impaired people.
